Vitamin A – Retinyl palmitate

Geek info

Our SUPERFOOD multipurpose vitamin face gel contains retinyl palmitate. Retinyl palmitate is a retinoid of the retinyl ester group, which accounts for more than 70% of the vitamin A found in human skin. When applied topically to the skin, the body’s natural enzymes convert Retinyl Palmitate to retinol, and then to other active forms of vitamin A. This retinoid then becomes a powerful anti-aging ingredient that helps reduce wrinkles by promoting the growth of new skin cells. Retinoids also facilitates communication between cells, encouraging ageing cells to continue their renewal process, and regenerate collagen and elastin to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Research has also proven it effective at producing new, healthy skin cells to replace skin previously damaged by UV rays. Some retinoids including the active form can be highly irritating for the skin. By using precursors of active vitamin A this side effect can be significantly reduced. Retinoids can diffuse into skin cells in the epidermis, where it is transported into the cell nucleus where it exerts its effects by modulating expression of genes involved in the growth and development of skin cells. The actions include prevention of breakdown of collagen, reduction of oxidative stress, and regeneration of the extracellular matrix.
