ADULT ACNE / Pimples
Adult acne most often occurs as a result of other causes than acne in adolescence.
Both people with oily skin and dry/sensitive skin can struggle with impurities and pimples. In people with dry/sensitive skin, pimples can occur as a result of an imbalance in the skin. Irritation, impurities and compensatory increased sebum production can then cause red, inflamed pimples.
People with dry skin have smaller pores, and may have other types of skin irritation as well, such as eczema.
People with large pores often have oily skin and increased sebum production. Pimples that occur in these people usually have less redness and irritation, but more dense, black pores - comedone acne.
There can be several reasons for acne and impurities, and there are different types of acne. Pimples can have varying degrees of inflammation. Pimples that become red and possibly with sebum/pus are local inflammatory reactions in the skin, where bacteria contribute to the problems. The inflammatory reaction in the skin weakens the skin's barrier function, so that the skin's resistance and protective function are reduced.
The skin's barrier against the environment is an important part of the skin's own defence, and has an important function in ensuring the skin's moisture level and protecting the skin against influences from wind, weather, UV rays and air pollution. When the barrier function weakens, the skin becomes 'leaky' and loses moisture. This can make the skin loose, dry, sensitized and irritated. Such skin also becomes more susceptible to bacterial infections that worsen acne tendencies. To counteract the dryness, the skin compensatory increases sebum production. This contributes to clogged pores, impurities, irritation and pimples and the skin becoming shiny.
People with a tendency to blemishes and acne often clean their skin a little too hard. Unfortunately, this causes further wear and tear on the skin's barrier function and a further weakening of the skin's resilience. One is therefore easily caught in a vicious circle with irritated, pimpled skin, with elements of dry areas and oily areas.
Regardless of the skin type and the cause of the impurities, we recommend a skin care routine that strengthens the skin barrier, without having a drying effect.
Remember to remove make-up every night. The cleansing products should be gentle, so they do not dry out the skin. The cleansing product should nevertheless provide an effective deep cleanse so that dirt, particles and dead skin cells are removed. Light exfoliation a couple of times a week is a good supplement. But remember to be gentle! It is sufficient to apply the cleaning product with a washcloth and massage gently.

Add fatty acids that do not clog pores and moisturise. The aim is a strengthened skin barrier, normalized sebum production and better moisture balance.
The skin needs a supply of the right fatty substances to increase the barrier function and resistance. The fatty acids must absorb well into the skin and have low comedogenicity, which means they must not clog the pores in the skin. Supplying the right fatty acids will help to improve the fluid balance and in the skin. The tendency for inflammation to break out in the skin will be reduced because the skin's barrier is strengthened.
